Right, a majority of the FF fans were on PS3. But not all FF fans went from PS2 to PS3.

Hence, people bought it for the console they owned. I guarantee exclusive advertising doesn't have the impact you think. Especially when the game appeals to a core audience aware that the game is multiplat.

I think we should just agree to disagree ^^ we will never known how much of an impact anything had on sales so might as well stop debating about it :P
