Cage Thanks Fans For Heavy Rain's "Real Success"

We recently awarded Heavy Rainco-Game of the Year 2010, and part of the reason is because it was the most progressive, forward-thinking game of the year.

And Quantic Dream boss David Cage believes his successful, ambitious project has paved the way for "richer storytelling in interactive entertainment." In speaking toPSM3 for the publication's "100 Moments of 2010," the studio head wanted to send a heartfelt message to everyone who supported the masterpiece in question:

"If I may, I would like to add a message for all the people who supported us and bought Heavy Rain, and to all my colleagues in the industry who voted to give awards to Heavy Rain. I would sincerely like to thank everybody for their trust and support, and for having made Heavy Rain a real success.

This game granted credibility and respect for the ideas that we believe in, and I am convinced that Heavy Rain has and will open doors to others to approach interactivity in different and more mature ways. I always said that the success or the failure of the game would send a strong message to the industry. This is now done. Thank you to all the people who believed in us and gave Heavy Rain a chance."

We remember being very concerned before Heavy Rain arrived, primarily because we knew Cage was right: if it failed, it would prove gamers simply hadn't grown up. And that is a very discouraging thought. But most critics loved it and instead of a meager few hundred thousand in sales (which was initially expected), the game went on to sell over 1.5 million units. As for Quantic's next project:

"We are working hard to invent the next revolution after Heavy Rain, and to surprise all the people who believe in our vision and to convince the others that games can become a more meaningful medium."

We couldn't be more thankful to Cage and Co. for accomplishing what they have, and we're overjoyed at the success of Heavy Rain. Therefore, we will be keeping a very close eye on their new title...
