I don't want to jump to conclusions as i don't know if its true...but if its is, Sony has bunch of apes calling the shots for the PS3.
This behaviour encourages piracy in my books. I think Id rather pirate a game I am unsure of buying if I can't rent it or buy it used. I bought 5 games last year and rented over 20... I ain't paying 60 bucks for something I don't even know I'll like.
Also, whats the point? Copywright protection implemented on PC games hasn't stopped a single game from getting ripped and distributed on the net for free. And since PS3 master key is up for grabs, hackers are just going to rip these games and put them on the net for you to enjoy. You may not be able to play on PSN with them but still it solves nothing, as I'm sure they can figure out a way of booting illegal users off psn now as things are without locking their software to 5 uses...

So it does fuck up gamefly?

According to my understanding of the OP, yeah renting wouldnt work anymore. Gamefly, blockbuster and whoever could possibly get special copies or some shit like that... Copies of games that aren't locked. But that would beat the purpose of the whole experiment as people could just pirate the rental copies...
I dunno, I still don't believe this is true because its retarded.
