Yes, you could say that about Gamecube; it was more or less PS2 junior - the bulk of its library were mostly ports of PS2 and Dreamcast games; and only a few of those could be considered top PS2 games, the vast majority of the best PS2 games never made it to Gamecube. Resident Evil 4 was the only really great one, and the Wii version is the definitive version.
Library wise; Gamecube vs Wii. Most of the top Gamecube games have better versions on the Wii. I also feel that Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 alone are superior to the entire Gamecube lineup combined. |
Pretty much, between it's mostly redundant (and competitively inferior at the time) 3rd party library and Nintendo's own games generally being below par with their historical high standards (Sunshine, Wind Waker, etc), GameCube's easily their worst home console imo.
On the flip side, I think it's architectural and industrial design is probably the best of Nintendo home console (especially for it's time), and it's controller was interesting, if a bit safe. The software wasn't all bad either, it still has it's own hidden gems here and there (Luigi's Mansion, Gotcha Force, F-Zero GX, Mr Drill Land, etc).
