The worst thing that could happen is that they only focus on big-budget 3D titles and expect them to carry the system's sales. They need to persist with the DS carry-over (Nintendogs/Mario Kart they have - Brain Training, 2D Mario, Pokemon are needed). They need to create new low-budget IP to capture new markets (like the Vitality sensor was going to do).
Even if the hardware is terrible, if they can get the entire DS audience (not just the people who like core games) to transition using old and new software it will be OK.
Third parties also should not feel pressured to make cinematic games alone just because it has a 3D screen.
