I don't think there's any doubt the 3DS will do pretty well and really I don't see it's 'failing' due to losing sales to the PSP2 but more just this whole idea/trend that there is a risk solo purpose handheld devices are going to be a thing of the past. It's very hard to 'guess' where technology is going but nowadays everyone I know just has an iPhone or something similiar - and it does everything they could want.
I mean, it's clearly going to sell tens of millions of units and hundreds of millions of software units, but I'm just not sure a solo-purpose gaming handheld is a device that nowadays can sell 100m units. Albeit I have no idea what things are like in Japan, I'm just not sure of it's appeal.
