I'm not 100% sure but I do follow the scene somewhat.

There are FW hacks for the DVD drive for most (maybe all?) older models that let you run burned discs, but I don't think they have any way to do this on the slims yet (with a big emphasis on yet).

But these hacks don't compromise the system security, they only allow for "backups" by tricking the DVD drive.

 

The only thing that even comes close to the PS3 hacks are the JTAG hacks, and they only work on certain models (old 360, not slim) that are manufactured before a certain date and it won't work if they have been updated. These hacks actually compromise the system security, and this lets you run unsigned code, backups, games from external HDD, etc.

Anyway, nothing as bad as what has happened to the PS3. Not even close.
