At this point a single HD format will drive down prices quicker than two competing formats.

Warners comments make it clear they want to kill having two formats though, and they together with the other content owners will stick with this now I think - so it's out of consumers hands anyway - HD DVD will be removed from retail space, it will lost new content and that will be that.

BTW download or stream ain't gonna be mainstream for a long, long, long time.

I'd like it - but I'm realistic enough to admit that I'm in a tiny minority (really tiny to be honest) vs global marketplace for media on physical storage.

Exactly!!! A MAJOR STUDIO WANTS THE FORMAT WAR TO END.  What i'm talking about is what's best for consumers.  Lets keep competition going so that prices will come down ASAP!

There is absolutely NO DOUBT, especially based on the last year, that HD DVD forces Blu-Ray prices down.  Confusion is minimal, it's actually fairly clear-cut to anyone with an IQ over 50.  This studio supports this format, and this studio supports that format.  SIMPLE.

And right after Sony brought out the $399 PS3, the company's executives were pushing the "cheap Blu-Ray player" line, so there is no doubt that the format war pushes PS3 prices down in a way it doesn't directly push down the prices of other consoles.

The entire premise of this thread is simple.  Whatever other factors come into it, HD DVD's existence can ONLY push Blu-Ray prices down.  As a person that will purchase a PS3, probably late this year, I would like very much for the price to come down.

Personally, I don't see why the PS3 fanboys in this thread have a problem with this.  Lower prices mean greater PS3 sales which in turn means more games.  Lower prices means more Blu-Ray sales which brings the format closer to mass market and more film releases.  Unless your actually more worried about studios, hardware companies, and Sony's bottomline, then you are about consumers, then you should have no problem with this.
