That was my point of patriotical pride Also yes I have patriotical pride in my countries stores. Sure Zellers is not the cheapest and is not Walmart. But it is at least was Canadian. I like knowing that Canada is different then America. Once Target takes over Zellers we will have most of the big American companies here in Canada and very few of our own. In Australia we have the government looking over stops like that, hence why Billabong, Rip Curl and Quiksilver will never be foreign owned. Same could be said with BHP Billiton as well i suppose. The government would jump in, it is also the reason why News Corp (fox) is US based now, Australia wouldnt let News Corp expand in Australia, US lets them in America, big mistake by Aussie politicians imo. So there is negatives and positives I like visiting the states to shop at Target and other American stores like K-Mart. But that does not mean I want to see them all up here. I guess many Canadians don't seem to care that all our companies are being gobbled up but I certainly do. Canada is Canada it isn't Northern United States. For me its an identity crisis, what seperates Canada's market from America's? If every Canadian retailer is owned by American companies and all our money goes to American corporations whats left thats truly Canadian? |
for last point:
Yep its the reason I want to see wallmart just to see it, but as for in australia, would destroy aussie companies. Not good. Doing the thing that Australian Politicians made the rule in aus for. US companies are too powerful, and mix that with Australians proximity to Japan and China, Wallmart would be all powerful in Australia.
