Well not speaking speculatively, I think it would be pretty clear to think after the huge sales success that is Epic Mickey, that the team and publisher would be looking to expand the franchise. Definitely one of the bigger budget Wii games release in awhile, it is hard to think they probably weren't planning to make it into a series to begin with.
Also like to take this moment to really congratulate the guys over at Disney as they really took a very risky project and made it into one of the biggest releases of the year. They put the time, money, and marketing into and well it paid off for them. Other developers across all systems should be taking notes as sometimes the risk is worth it.
