Even the Communists thought Pol Pot was too destructively crazy to be left in power. Pretty much the first thing the Vietnamese did after unifying with the South after the war was to roll on and "save" Cambodia from Pol Pot, though that involved putting in a Vietnamese-friendly Communist regime, but it was still a good ways better than Pol Pot, which should say just how crazy he was.
I'm the kind of person who definitely wouldn't function well, at least in a combat situation, but with the way the modern military works, you have like a 12.5% chance of being a combat trooper (i think the count was 1 combat soldier to 8 support personnell, right?)
