Thats true and I was aware of it. Zellers and HBC have been American owned for years and I was super pissed when that happened. But at least Zellers and HBC remained somewhat Canadian in the fact that the guy who bought them got Canadian citizenship and the company remained headquartered in Canada and only found in Canada. Now with Target their is absolutely nothing Canadian about it. I hate to see all my countries stores getting picked up by American companies. Whats next StarBucks buying Tim Hortons? Better not happen! Now don't get me wrong everytime I cross the border I go to Target. I love Target because I get products their that aren't availible in Canada, like Vanilla Coke or Buttermilk bread. But a Canadian Target won't carry those products so their is no upside to me to see Target take over Zellers. Also I have gotten extremely pleased with the way Zellers has been operating the last few years. Lower prices and great boxing day sales. I also prefer Zellers brand clothing to Walmart or Superstore (Which has zip). I'm suprized so many Canadian's on here don't mind to see them go. As someone else said at least us Canadian's have Superstore, one last Canadian chain to shop at. |
Quebec doesn't have superstore :(
And infact, I've bought more shirts from walmart than i have zellers (well i've bought none at zellers lol) but walmart tends to update cool tshirts. i recently got a comic book style spiderman shirt and a popeye shirt. and they had some nice super mario shirts but 2 kids shirts is enough for a guy my age lol.
Anyway, as someone mentioned, the few times I've been to zellers, its just disgusting to see half-empty shelves of videogames and old games w/ their original 60-70$ price tag.
But even w/ all the negative, I will miss it, Joelcool... for a few minutes. Anyway don't fret. Canadian banks have been shopping around quite a bit lately, buying assets in the states, europe, and SA. Canadian stability FTW!!
