Its a requirement to register, regardless.

I wouldn't worry about getting drafted. Unlikely to happen.

Besides, why are you so worried about joining the military? Too worried you may have to defend America?

Because S.Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Iraq again and Afghanistan have all been directly defending America right? Americas military is used for more than defence - it's used for foreign policy.

Because every person drafted always goes off to war, right?

Because every person that ever joins the military gets a job killing someone else, right?

Because there will never, ever be a war that has a reason to have a side that is justified in defending itself, right?

I am against Iraq and Afghanistan. But do not forget, there are wars like WW2 that are fully justified for national defense, and the defense of our allies. Last I checked, the Japanese were pushing closer to your nation before we helped.

There are other ways to defend America, too. The National Guard can do a lot of domestic good, without always fighting in needless wars. Likewise, there are a lot of honorable countries that have compulsury military service that are very civil and do not fight needless wars (Switzerland would be a great example).

I was criticising your jab "Besides, why are you so worried about joining the military? Too worried you may have to defend America?" because most of the major wars America takes part in (and the last ones to have people drafted into) were not about defending America. They were about foreign policy.

I'm not necessarily criticising the use of the military for foreign policy - I'm saying somebody who doesn't want to be drafted doesn't have to be "worried they may have to defend America". They may be worried they'll be sent off to a foreign hell hole to further the interests of the American government.
