Nothing, and that's why I don't care. I buy far too many games for my systems anyway. 
If people want handheld versions of console games, that's perfectly fine imo. DS has e.g. Mario Kart, to name one extremely successful example (and many Nintendo fans hope for a SSB handheld version), PSP has God of War et.al. And can't you (and I) wait for Okamiden, a handheld game based on a console IP? 
As long as excellent, original IPs are still created for handhelds (Advance Wars, Prof. Layton, Scribblenauts, Ace Attorney, Patapon, LocoRoco, Lumines to name a few examples), the game companies can bring as many "handheld versions of console games" as they and their audience want in my opinion.
