Good....I hope they win

They have no chance of winning. Reverse engineering a product which is essentially what GeoHot has done is totally legal.

Sony surely have better things to spend money on...

All they are trying to do is show "others" who have the intention of doing similar things that we can and will make your life miserable for a long time.   This GeoHot guy is going to be broke for the rest of his life almost any way this thing plays out.  So I hope he does put up a legal defense fund, I would bet he ends up getting a decent amount from people who feel sorry for him.  I may even donate a few bucks and I haven't even hacked my PS3.

If my understanding is correct GeoHot doesnt need to do anything. Precendents have alrady been set.

What he did was not illegal it may contravene the TOS for the PS3 he used but thats meaningless. Expect the court to summarily dismiss.

I agree with you though it's more SONY posturing than anything else.

I don't think it will be as easy as a court basically dismissing the case.  I have a feeling that Sony will indeed get them into court and then Sony will drag the thing out as long as they possibly can.  Meaning more money to Lawyers and thus grief infliction.

I do believe that GeoHot will win in the long run but is a win with a huge debt a real win?  I sort of think no.
