Although I agree that the "Blu-Ray Wins!" threads are pointless, it is quite clear that you don't really understand what you're talking about.

GENERIC MEDIA STORAGE? What is that supposed to mean, exactly? Standards have to be defined, and it is to the benefit of everybody to have a universal standard. Nobody wanted to engage in a format war, it was essentially just Sony and Microsoft butting heads over what exactly that standard should be.

And branding has nothing to do with it. Did you have the same problem with CDs? Or DVDs? They are brands too you know.

Also, from a technical standpoint, it is not "opinion" that Blu-Ray is better, it is fact. The only benefit that HD-DVD has is that it is cheaper to produce, but production costs barely even register at the retail level. The Blu-Ray hate is obviously a thinly veiled attack on Sony and the PS3, even though they are only one of many companies in the Blu-Ray Disc Association.
