It's perfectly viable to tie assassins to political groups, but assassins, unless bound to a conspiracy, tend to be deranged by nature, so no-one can really take responsibility for them one way or another. The only clear alignment this guy had was libertarian, with attachments to both Left Libertarianism (Anarchism) and Right Libertarianism (i don't think there's an ism here? Ayn Randism?)

 

Though the whackos of the radical right (which is a very tiny faction far alienated from the right itself) are at least more prone to successful acts of violence than their counterparts on the left in the USA, at least since the 80s or so.
