"Well, God of War III is the end of the trilogy. We didn’t leave you on a cliffhanger but I think it’s not the end of the franchise. I’m looking forward to do something different if we can. It also might be nice to return to the franchise if we can and bring all that knowledge back from wherever we go. Anything’s possible. It’s premature to say what it might be, since I don’t even know what I’ll be doing next week."
^That was a quote from Santa Monica themselves. I assume that means that they will make more God of War games.

I for one, will be incredibly pissed if they make another God of War because thats just milking the shit out of the franchise.
Btw, they made Ghost of Sparta after the above quote was made.
You said that its hard for you to see that Sony wouldn't make another God of War, as III was incredibly successful. I ask you, was it ever going to be anything but a success ?
I'd like to see the awesome people at SCE Santa Monica start an entirely new franchise, cause in another 10 years, I want God of War to be remembered as an epic series that was considered to be among the best of the best. Not an epic milkfest like Call of Duty.
God of War wouldn't be God of War without Kratos. I don't want to see a spin off or another prequel. I think the story arc is as complete as it could be... a new game would ruin everything.
If a new franchise isn't gonna work, they should move on to a new mythology (Norse, Egyptian, Mayan, whatever) with a character similar to kratos (maybe different coloured tattoos or something) and still call it God of War.
An immediate sequel to III or another prequel would drive me insane. I don't want a 6th God of War game to happen if its still based on Greek mythology.
