You have #2 completely backwards. Do you ever wonder why everything has i in front of it? Because people that don't know any better buy almost stritcly off of brand name or what they've heard of. Parents have heard of Nintendo, Mario, Zelda, Brain Age, Nintendogs, DS, etc. The 3DS could be crap in a box at $300 and it will sell based purely off of those things.

The PS3 had only the PS3 name, it didn't have games to go with the name. The 3DS at least has games to go with the brand name.
