Yes.  PSP and DS started this generation. Just like the 3DS and PSP2 will be the first consoles of this coming generation.  No one will see it that way or care as portables aren't nearly as deeply ingrained outside of Japan.  Hell the Wii is just a home based DS with worse third party software. The PS3 shares the same graphical user interface as the PSP as well boasting many multimedia features like it's portable brother.  

Well, don't think they're that under-appreciated, I played and loved them both.
