I doubt that's the reason.

- Donkey Kong games (link).
- The PS1 Crash games managed to sell very, very well (link).
- Ratchet & Clank (PS2) sold over 500k in Japan. (link).
- Banjo-Kazooie (N64) sold well, too. (link).
