Considering how dead PSP is software wise already in west this really doesn't matter that much. Actually as this probably leads to increased hw sales for PSP Sony could get more money out of PSP this way (PSP hw must have pretty high profit margin). PS3 is of course different thing...

....hmmm, i wonder why that would be.

humanity, a long history of fucking themselves...

It's not solely because of piracy . DS sells software just fine even though piracy has been easier on DS than PSP, PS2 sold software just fine even though it had massive piracy, Wii, PS1 etc. Bigger reason for lack of PSP software sales is its game library. Yes there are some critically amazing games but even these are seen little watered down PS2 versions with nothing unique. They are typically home console games turned to portable but with inferior graphics and gameplay. Nintendo has been able to create games that work better on handheld. Also first party line up for PSP has been pretty much disaster. Compare that to PS3 and it has been pretty bad. It feels that when PS3 started to stuggle Sony somehow forgot they had PSP and it has been that way.

Actually, I would say piracy is initially harder on the DS than the PSP and that's what matters.  I assume for the PSP you need a USB cable and who doesn't have one of those (I could be completely wrong here, just assuming)?  For the DS, you have to buy a special cart and then a mini-SD card which both together are fairly expensive.

True, once setup I assume the DS is easier but when we're dealing with cheap, lazy, and selfish pricks in the first place they're probably going to go for the initially easier and cheaper investment.
