um, no.
FF is less a franchise and more a certain style of game. Only certain things are the same in the games, and that gives the "franchise" the ability to adapt whenever it needs. One day, FF may look completely different, and we'll look back and say, "wow, remember what FF was like back in it's teens".
You've gotta remember that the ps3 still doesn't have as many consoles in the wild as the ps2 did.
The other thing is that ffx was riding the ff7 wave. People got hooked with 7 and 8 and it matured at 10. Does this mean that none of the further ffs did well? Nonsense. Think of ff7 and 8 as ARTIFICIALLY increasining the userbase. FF was always popular before 7, and even if future ffs simply return to their old popularity, then they will still be here forever.
