You do realize that it has to be a product that people want in the first place?
Marketing help spread the awareness telling the (casual) people that such a device exist and they may be interested.
Yes, marketing helps, but that's not all the product has. It's an interesting device and there are already so many homebrew for Kinect already.
Are you butthurt by Kinect because it's selling more than your system of choice?
