Mass Effect is such a mess of game, that it's not even worth dragging myself through all it's technical issues and poor designs just so I can 'truly' understand it's story. I've got it on my 360 and the game just drags, not because the world and plot isn't interesting, but because the game semi freezes just when I'm turning around and the gameplay is just so wonky.
I might buy Mass Effect 2 on the PS3, only because I'd rather play the critically acclaimed sequel, without going through the broken original, while also getting the chance to understand the plot and make the choices from the first game.
It's hard to pass up such a highly praised game and I'm willing to put my money down if it means that I won't have to go through Mass Effect 1.

so you got a way through ME1, gave up but never bought ME2 for the 360? but now will buy it for the PS3? odd.

I 'might' buy Mass Effect 2 on the PS3. I've had this discussion before, I'd ask if I could play Mass Effect 2 without playing Mass Effect 1 and everyone and their grandmother would come out and tell me that I'd significantly reduce my overall experience if I didn't play the first one.
Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 seems like a perfect match up to what I want, which is not to play Mass Effect 1, but still get the opportunity to understand the plot and make a few of the decisions leading into the sequel (it also helps that it's got some DLC thrown in). I'll probably wait until it drops in price, but I'll eventually pick it up and hopefully find out what all the fuss is about.

If that's the case, I wouldn't hesitate: buy the game and get yourself some ME goodness in your life.
