There's not really a lot they can do besides release the PS4, the PS3 is pretty much open at this point.
They have the root keys so the PS3 will think every home brew app is an official app and they can't revoke the key because then everything released before they released the fix wouldn't work anymore.
Even if they did release some firmware update the failoverflow conference showed how they can easily roll back to any firmware update and still have the PS3 think it has the current firmware.

Actually, I'm sorry I guess there is a solution but it's about the dumbest thing imaginable-- They could revoke the old keys and then force everyone to send in their old games and have Sony send them back new ones. :-p
