But the 360's 1 million weeks came with no price cut and when it did cut one of its sku's to $199 it didn't hit it. This generation is pretty hard to predict, so I wouldn't be too quick to think all of the PS3 current sales woes (yeah, some actually view it that way ...) will be solved with a price cut and it'll hit a million many times. The economic situation, what competitors do and new software experiences (still waiting for that Move game to make it stand out), as well as a number of other unforeseen things, could cause any number of boosts and drops. Of course if that new rumor about the console being cracked is real, it could DEFINITELY see a huge, sustainable HARDWARE boost ... |
I picked up the newpaper 1 month ago, and on every other page their was an advertisiment for Kinect. Microsoft have spend half a billion to market this device. imo thats why depite when they had that price cut its had these numbers. Kinect has been their ace in the hole, and thats why the console is selling, without Kinect i doubt those sales could be realised.
i agree with what you've said, the PS3 sales could be described as woes, but the console has sold very well despite the stiff competition this hoilday season. imo Microsoft cant replicate the success of their console without Kinect this year or next. Sony's been short of 1mil this year by about 150,000 units for about 2 or 3 weeks this season.
and its done that without the same type of advertising as Nintendo or Microsoft, and wihout smaller prices points, thus i think there will be many 1 mil weeks in years to come.
part of my rational is that Microsoft or NIntendo might decide to release new consoles soon; because of the billions of losses of the PS3 this gen, i highly doubt the PS4 is coming for a very long time. Sony wont make this mistake like Sega did imho.
