I can understand PSP homebrew scene ( I also have CF in my PSP) as it's handy to have portable homebrew/emulation machine with you but I really don't see what is so great about homebrew with PS3 as there is already a lot more powerfull PC with even better emulators etc. Having ability to play mkv files is pretty much the only feature that would be handy but as Media Server already streams something like 80% of mkv files even that is not must have feature for me.

Homebrew will surely bring back PS2 emulation and if it does I see that as something great, then I could buy a Slim and not keep my power hungry 60GB.

I have wanted a new PS3 but would refuse since I would prefer to keep the PS2 B/C.

It would probably also allow the use of user created dynamic themes.

Well if you enjoy playing games with 10 fps then maybe. Sony would have already added software based PS2 emulator if it had acceptable performance. For hardware based BC models CF could bring region free PS2 gaming though.

No, most likely not.

I believe SONY already patented PS2 backwards compatibility on PS3, but then they saw how well the re-releases were selling, notably the God of War Collection, so why give us that ability when they obviously see that we will buy them again?

The ability is there and if anyone thinks otherwise it is quite naive considering the 80GB MG4 bundle PS3 ran only partial software based B/C, and that was over 2 1/2 years ago.

Yes, it's pretty obvious really that it can be done.

Yeah... some PS3 models had PS2 B/C without hardware... just software emulation.
