Look at Ipods. It would be very easy for Apple to make it so that only songs downloaded from Itunes would work on Ipods. They don't do this because if they didn't studies show they'd lose over half of their Ipod Sales (66%-75% something like that.) There was a big article about it in the economist a couple years ago.
Most people who pirate would never have bought the product they are pirating in the first place. What's any of that have to do with the Wii?
The two are very different issues, I don't know why the Wii is in this thread... other then it being mentioned by the Op.
But I can tell you that piracy isn't hurting the PSP, it's what is making it Nintendo's first real competition and not the Neo Geo Pocket or something.
