If we're talking about setting the bar here. I think Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, Infamous and other Sony exclusives have set the bar not only for multiplatforms but for games on other consoles. If we're talking about platformers then Nintendo holds the crown there still with Mario Galaxy. It depends on the genre really. |
Im also talking about relevance. A multiplatform engine is the best benchmark for other multiplatform games especially as many also share a commonality with the same engine. An exclusive doesn't give you a good benchmark when you're trying to compare and contrast a game which potentially has an upper 10% budget in it's class with games which had a fraction of the attention and were developed for multiple consoles. Especially as these were not game designs massaged with a major purpose of pushing visuals unlike the major PS3 exclusives which are typically listed.
A good benchmark isn't, 'I out spent ya'll so you can suck it'. A benchmark is a reasonable standard to attain and meant to be exceeded.
