i drink because it's a social lubricant.

also, drinking lightly or in moderation is better for your health than not drinking at all.

Too true. On both accounts.

The OP sounds like it was written by someone who has a family member or members with a history of alcohol abuse. Keyword there being "abuse."

All things in moderation.

What in the holy? No alcohol consumption for your body is actually better than occasional or moderational consumption.

Alcohol has detrimental effects on your body, just google it and you'll be informed.

I am 19, turning 20 in 3 months and have never resorted to drinking or smoking anything. What I really find difficult understanding is why people have to lose control of their senses in order to enjoy themselves.

You need to read more than just the articles that support your opinion.

You don't even need to look hard; the health benefits when consumed in moderation are widely acknowledged, particularly reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

I'm pretty sure no one's suggesting that anything more than moderate consumption is beneficial and if you don't know the difference between moderation and abuse, then you personally are better off abstaining until you educate yourself a bit better.
