I will occasionally purchase an arcadey kind of game which has no real plot or sense of depth. I enjoy these games and they have their place. Similarly I will sit down for a Darren Shan novel or a Transformers movie and enjoy the action for its face value. Unfortunately these experiences teach us nothing and only exist in the short term. A game with no story is rarely memorable. I want to play games that will stay with me through my whole life and can be called upon for the life lessons I have learned from them. Games are no longer just a petty tool of short-term excitement. They are a true art form and can go anywhere the imagination takes them. Those who do not seek a greater depth in storytelling and interactivity are not required to play along with those who do. There are plenty of Twisted Metals and Resident Evils for those who don't care to experience an engrossing story.
