It's for cultural reasons really.Drinnking alcohol is a social ritual present in most cultures. Alcohol tastes bad, is bad for your health but causes addiction, so people start drinking it due to social pressure, and then they become alcoholics. Let's not forget all the propaganda from companies who sell alcohol.
Personally I don't drink. It may have negative consiquences on my social life, but I don't care to be one of those drunk sheep who fill the coffers of liquor companies, and then go out and have car accidents.
