Best Buy isn't being hammered by the immaturity of 3D TV, it's being clobbered by what Bob Marley would've called the Great Downpression. Which never ended, by the way -- here in the US, we've still got 10% unemployment, 1 in 12 mortgages are delinquent, 1 in 7 citizens are on food stamps, etc. People bought expensive HDTVs in 2004-2007 by flipping homes during the housing bubble and by running up debt, and now that game is up.

That said, true or stereoscopic 3D is definitely coming to gaming and will open up some amazing gaming experiences, but the artists are going to have to figure out how to use it properly.

While I'm excited for the 3DS, I don't really see 3D displays in their current form as offering much value when it comes to producing new content ... Certainly, an improvement in being able to understand the "depth" of what you're seeing may make it easier to navigate 3D environments but I don't see it impacting how we play games in a meaningful way.
