People here sure do love these comparisons. They seem completely pointless except in cases where there is one version that is significantly better than the other, like with Bayonetta. Even then only a very small number of people who own both consoles and are interested in a certain game will buy one version based on visuals and game performance.

I had only a ps2 last generation and played many multiplats that ran, loaded, and looked worse than its xbox and gc counterparts. At that time it never crossed my mind that I should care about framerates, anti-aliasing, loading times, screen tearing or whatever else gamers these days obsess over. If any of this stuff actually mattered and wasn't just a matter of fanboyism under the veil of objectivity, wouldn't these people purchase these games for PC where possible? Comparing which console version sucks less is just another way for fanboys to circlejerk their favourite console.

Other than that, what is the point of these comparisons in cases where the games are just about the same?

I was about to say, "well in this case, there is still one version that's signifcantly better than the others," but then I read your second paragraph.  =(
