Circuit City going away didn't really help Best Buy all that much.  They got more customers for sure, but the problem with Best Buy (and Circuit City for that matter) is that Walmart started focusing on Electronics with a specific focus on flat panel TV's.  

That erased the nice profit margins that electronic dealers were making on TV's.  Instead of have a 100% markup it is now more like 10-20% markup.  Good for consumers, bad for retailers.  Walmart is more to blame for Circuits Downfall than Best Buy is (well, and their own management).
