One thing I did notice was that when the Sony GoogleTV launched, there was a ton of TV advertising. Then I noticed fewer ads and only a few weeks after launch the prices got slashed. Cutting prices right after launch can only mean that the things are selling horribly.

While this may not apply in this situation, a common strategy with 3D TV's (And most 'new' technologies when introduced on the market) has been to initially price the things 'above' what is the intended retail price for the launch period. The sad fact is that there are alot of people out there with more money then sense, and they have to have the newest thing straight away.

It gives them a two-fold effect, they can get lots of extra money by selling the thing at a rediculous price to those whom for money is not an obsticle, and they can promote them at a 'price cut' price when they do go down to what the actual intended price was in the first place.

Not saying that's what happened in your specific case but it's certainly been the strategy employed by 3D TV's in the UK, afterall £1000 for a 3D TV is alot easier to swallow when they tell you it's reduced from £1600.
