It was alright, probably deserves GOTY but this year has been very weak for games overall.

I disagree firmly, finding 2010 to be a step over 2009.

- With HEAVY RAIN, God of War III, RDR, Final Fantasy XIII, WAKE, Halo: Reach, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Black Ops, Gran Turismo 5, Mass Effect 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2, DKC:R, & Goldeneye, this year had a lot of goodness. I expect 2011 to walk all over it, however.

That said, I can understand why RDR is winning GOTY awards, even if it wasn't one of my top 5 personal GOTY candidates.

Heavy Rain and Final Fantasy XIII were love it or hate it, God of War 3 was inferior to God of War 2, Assassins Creed Brotherhood was inferior to Assassins Creed 2, Black Ops was inferior to Modern Warfare 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Golden Eye were a disappointment, Super Mario galaxy 2 and Donkey Kong Country Returns are more of the same.

Its been a crap year.

To each his own, for everything you pointed out you didn't like, many others loved, which is why a good amount of those titles have either won GOTY awards, or won some form of GOTY award.

In other words, from my view, the year has been far from crap.

I agree with you.  I think it's been a pretty good year actually, Mass Effect 2 and RDR alone made it a worth while year.  I also thought another set of games offered a good time (FFXIII, GoW3 Heavy rain, etc.)

I think people are just elevating their requirements for good games.  It's like that elitism people generate with all things they have a lot of exposure to, such as wine, beer, and food.  If it's not as good as something extravagant/amazing they've had in the past (which of course, is all relative), it must be crap.

I think video games deserver a little shades of grey between these blacks and whites.  Good games, shouldn't be demoted to 'crap' for being just good instead of great.
