Well I am not to sure hwo hot the new CPUS are meant ot be running these days. I don't know if 55 is dangerous levels or not for your CPU.
My older one would run at about 55 idle 70 with load on.
My current get AMD probably runs around 35-40degrees.
If the CPU temp is running high for your cpu, I reckon the heats needs to be upgraded to something better, one that dissipates heat better (ie a copper one). Another issue could be that the heat sink gell isn't spread evenly or enough, meaning not all the rough gaps between the heat sink and CPU have been closed. Which makes the transfer of heat less efficient.
