You're talking about "stars" not actors.  Most of the best actors around don't earn a fraction of movie stars.  And movie stars are paid becuase of how they look, their public persona or some particular draw they represent to the high volume movie going public.  And nothing digital is going to compete with that - well, maybe apart from Japan, they can go nuts over virtual performers there.

OP - I wouldn't sweat it.  Actors are certainly required, particularly for anything outside dumb action movies - and even there they sure make a difference.

Nothing is comparable currently to a superb, layered performance.  Nothing digital is even close to matching, as an example, Colin Firth's excellent performance in The King's Speach.

As for Lucus, I would imagine the tech is miles away from what he's thinking at this point.  Look at Clu in Tron Legacy, which is probably the pinacle of what's been tried so far, and remember they needed the living Jeff Bridges for reference before de-aging him.

It should be noted that a lot of recent movies that were relying on star power have recently been flopping big time (How Do You Know, every mpvoe starrig Angelina Jolie etc.). I really don't think that nowadays it's thet important who's starring in a movie. If you look at the most successful movies of the past years, I don't think you'll be able to say that their success was due to the actors.
