Oh! A topic dear to my heart!
Alrighty, I am a single malt Scotch drinker. I have had my times with Johnny Walker and the American blendeds, but that time came to an abrupt end when my older brother broke out a 12 year Macallan. I haven't gone back.
I have only tried a few single malt scotch whiskey's: 12 yr Glenlivet, 12 year Macallan, 12 year Highland Park, and 12 yr Glenfiddich.
I have to say my favorite thus far is the 12 yr Glenlivet. Smooth going in and smooth going down with ample taste and a very light touch of peat in the after taste.
The one I dislike the most is the 12 yr Glenfiddich. The back of the bottle says "hints of pear," which I can definitely taste, but it goes down like a tequila shot. Much too harsh for my palate.
The 12 yr Highland Park rates a 96-100 from the Wine Enthusiast, but it is not my fave because the after taste is heavy peat almost like drinking liquid smoke, but not quite.
