Eh, the map structure was actually a big upfront change, and the linear thrust in level design a pretty significant shift. Structurally you could argue that Mario Galaxy 2 has more in common with the 2D games than it does 64/Sunshine/Galaxy 1.  I can see how the game's changes and additions might seem "minuscule" superficially, but a deeper analysis of the game would probably make you think otherwise... you should read EDGE's review actually if you ever get the chance, it was great.

Galaxy 1 & 2 are actually really different, and personally I prefer the more exploratory first game.
