You may want to keep in mind that a wheel doesn't get "wasted" very fast. Most wheels have a very long compatibility span. If you get a G27 today, you may still be able to use it for next gen games. Once you get the wheel, you're most likely going to look for other games that can take advantage of it (on both PC and PS3, in the case of the G27 since it's compatible for both) and your investment will get this much more worthwhile.
There are also plenty of non sim games that can be played with such a wheel. It makes the experience so much better, just like you were at the arcade.
