Exactly right.

If Sony want to go the phone only route (which I seriously doubt they will - despite all the rumours) then they better be ready to release a new iteration every year or so... as Apple do, with fully functional backward compatibility. 

This doesn't seem to resemble the Playstation business model at all to me.

 

Where have you been?  In the past four years, we've gotten 4 new PSP models...
