Its a problem with the dvd laser as far as I know. If its out of warrant and you have the tools (mainly a multimeter) you can adjust the DVD pot setting to make the laser stronger. You can also do as someone else said and if you have a broken 360 you can take the dvd drive out of it and put in this one. Other than that the problem will slowly get worse and worse and happen to more and more games. I do not think the hard drive could of caused this
