You know, that's exactly why they started allowing gays to join the military in Italy. Lots of people were pretending to be gay to dodge the draft (though there's no mandatory draft in the US, so you won't have such a problem).

There is a mandortory draft in the us.  We just never use it.

Technically at any time guys can be drafted into the military on a successful action of congress to reactivate it.
