Market wise, I think it's just too late. A "Wii HD" mid-cycle upgrade (720p, more flash, DVD playback, Wiimote Plus, etc, etc) could've worked, but at this point Nintendo would be better off just waiting for it's successor (which is probably just 1-2 years off anyway). Really, I think all we'll see for new Wii SKUs is new colors and hit software bundles, not an actual upgrade or redesign.
Kinda weird that the most successful home console this gen is the only one not getting a refresh. Also, afaik, Wii's the only singular model of hardware so far that's likely to sell over 100m (GB, PS1, PS2 and DS all only did it by combining differing redesigns and upgrades).
