Nah it's not too difficult, it's the way games should be. It's just that most games these days are too easy.
Besides, the game is actually quite easy, IF you're talking about just going through the levels normally. However, the real challenge comes in with all the extra stuff, like the secret levels, collecting all puzzle pieces, time attack mode, etc. But just beating the game normally is really not that hard, especially since you can 100s of lives from Cranky.
