It's fascinating to watch the numbers climb, the industry change and the human reactions surrounding these events.

This.   It was especially interesting in the early years to see if Nintendo's risky and unconventional strategy would work, and to a lesser extent, Sony's.   More interesting was watching the fanboys rail against the Wii sales, as if somehow Wii was going to doom the industry they love.   Turns out they were wrong, there's long of great games for everyone.

Now it's interesting to see those same people embracing the copycat strategy of Move / Kinect and no longer feel threatened by it, despite it's now being done by their 'core' system and not a console they'd have ignored anyway.

The industry is changing and in some respects growing up.  It's not just for teenaged boys (or so the perception went) now it's becoming truly mainstream.  It'll be real interesting to see what comes next.
