Anyway, statistically, Nintendo's games have sold a lot more than Sony's. And I sincerely hope that you don't need an example, :P. No, sales aren't everything, but they're a very good indicator.

sales arnt a good indicter ateall. marketing is all sales are. bayoneta was probably one of the single best games released last year. barley sold 1 milion on ps3 and xbox combined.

You need to be more objective in an argument.

Marketing doesn't have that huge an effect at all. If the game's good enough to attract the right people, it can sell millions with pretty much no marketing. Look at Just Dance last year, for example.

if marketing had no effect microsoft wouldnt have spent $500 million on it for kinect XD. some of the all time greats sell a 10th of games that arnt that good. wii music sold almost 3 million. did it diserve it? no. was it advertisd liek hell? yes.

Of course it has an effect. A phenomenonal effect at that, but that's not all there is to it. Advertising can push a game to a reasonable amount, but the game won't really excel unless it really appeals to people (eg. Wii Music vs. Wii Fit).
